hooked on drugs
From former German top cyclist Erik Zabel's recent admission of taking the banned blood booster erythropoietin while competing for national team Telekom in 1996 to the arrest of four Sarawakian footballers back home- its seems everyone's had a fair share of drug abuse.
While the National Shooting Association of Malaysia is still investigating the reasons to the failed dope test by three of their shooters including Bibiana Ng, the entertainment scene too has been rocked with drugs scandals.
However, both Mael of XPDC and Jamal Abdillah have been acquitted by the courts while a case against former anti crime TV3 presenter Mazidul Akmal Sidek is still pending.
Back to the local sportsmen, the shooters can kiss the Korat SEA Games goodbye while despite getting high, the Sarawak team are placed rock bottom in the Malaysian Super League.
Thus the decision of starting random dope test at grassroots meets is warmly welcomed, something which has been toyed around for the past two years.
CBC Sports Online have a good list of most influential drug scandals in the sporting world for the past decade here.
