CYC set to fail?

THE Champions Youth Cup which was initiated by the Sports Ministry in conjuction of Malaysia celebrating its 50th anniversary has been much criticised.

The masses are still unaware of the proper dates. Who can blame them as the promotions towards the meet is almost non-existant.

In about two weeks time some of the great clubs will field their youngsters to play each other- something seen as more of a holiday merrying session rather than anything serious. The meet is scheduled Aug 5-19, in about two weeks from now.

The website is of no help either. The fixtures on the website has only the state instead of venue of play. There are three stadiums in KL so which will the first match between AFC Ajax and CR Flamengo be played- Bukit Jalil, Cheras or Shah Alam?

The Sports Ministry will have a lot of answering to do as stadiums are not expected to host a large crowd of spectators. Even the Asian Cup featuring several players plying their trade with top European teams fail to fill the stands, what more a bunch of young newbies which may only crave a name in years to come.

No one is looking forward to this CYC. After millions of tax payers money has been spent for organising the event. Maybe the concerned parties will fill up the seats with school children, something they are known to do in previous events.

Thus far, they aren't doing well making the meet big, what more during the tournament. A sheer waste of money, time and energy. Wouldn't it better spent elsewhere..hmm.
